Many jobs have disappeared and new ones have been created. Not many years ago we had both shoemakers and tailors, but we don’t see these professions so much anymore. It is also not that long ago that the internet was a completely unknown thing for most people and mobile phones were reserved for only a few people,whereas today, this is very normal in everyday life.

Technology and society are developing, our needs are changing and there are plenty of opportunities. Tasks which needed specialisation within certain industry sectors before, can now be carried out through the use of technology – so what will become the important tasks in the future?
In this article, we will present some of the possible job adverts of the future. Maybe there is something that suits you?
Digital garbage collector
Every day we throw a lot of data in the bin, or we have data lying around which is not used. It may not be necessary to store data that hasn’t been used in the past year, but there may be some “golden nuggets” if you have a close look. Perhaps you didn’t see any value in this data at the time, but things may have changed. By using artificial intelligence, you may be able to find some value that hasn’t been seen before.
- For this role, you’ll need to have a good knowledge and understanding of statistics, data analysis, and applied maths – you must also have 3-5 years of experience with various analysis software tools.
- You must have experience in working with ‘big data’ and machine learning. It’s no disadvantage to also have experience in one or more programming languages.
- You must be able to work well with others and have strong oral and written skills.
- Also, you must be able to visualise complex analysis and relationships in an effective graphical way through diagrams, figures, and other types of overviews.

Cyber-attack specialist
These days digital attacks happen often – this is in fact mainly where wars take place. You must be able to identify any weak points in the country’s infrastructure or that of your business and make sure that these gaps are filled. At the same time, you’ll need to be a member of an active force that also carries out attacks and infiltration to help stop attacks and terrorism.
- You’ll need to have at least 5 years of experience in hacking and infiltration and have good programming skills in several languages.
- You’ll need to develop all the time in order to keep up with digital development, opportunities and challenges.
- To make sure that you work effectively with others and are able to document your work with a high level of correctness, particularly strong communication skills are needed, both verbally and in writing.
- You must have the relevant approved security clearances and stay within national guidelines that have been drawn up for cyber attacks and cyber defence.

Digital voice designer
In the future, the use of voice will become an important part of interaction design for digital solutions. This means being able to adjust voices so that they seem natural and can even use different dialects and can be adjusted to the individual user’s wishes so that it becomes “the perfect voice”.
The perfect voice will be known as if it belongs to another person and is engaging and natural. Local elements (dialect, cultural elements) and some humour must also be taken into consideration.
- You’ll need to have a formal education in language and linguistics, as well as a background in creative writing, interaction design, social communication and knowledge of expanded reality.
- You’ll need to be able to give solutions that are not question- and answer-based, and that create a natural flow of conversation. You’ll need a solid knowledge of linguistics and cultural conditions that may have an impact on the communication design.
- You’ll need to be able to create a voice that sounds natural, has character and ideally some humour. You need a deep understanding of human communication, as well as about the subject where the voice is used.

Home organiser
In the world we live in, people are constantly getting more and more things, but tend not to throw away the things that aren’t used. They need help to tidy up and get rid of the things that don’t bring joy to everyday life. “Less is more” is the slogan here. Through asking good questions, you will be able to catalogue what should be kept, what can be thrown away and what should be thrown away, and show what a life without too many useless objects can look like for the individual customer. That way, you will have fewer distractions and more room for the things that really create quality and joy in everyday life.
- You’ll need experience of giving guidance, combined with an artistic sense and the ability to actively listen. Education within interior design is an advantage.
- You’ll need to understand what motivates each individual customer and navigate between different personality types by asking good questions and actively listening. You must be able to cut through, at the same time not violating the customer’s needs and wishes. This is a balancing act that demands good human insight and the ability to build trust.
- You’ll need to be familiar with the use of technology that can make the work of cataloguing the customer’s belongings more effective, at the same time as being able to visualise how they can design their home with the objects that are to be kept. This will demand insight into both expanded reality and the use of artificial intelligence.

As a smart home designer, you’ll work closely with engineers, architects and customers. You must make sure that the customer gets a stable and customised experience of technology that will make their life easier. You must be fully up-to-date on both trends and technology development so that you can present the best solutions for each individual customer. You need the skills of understanding others, seeing things from different points of view and building trust.
- You’ll need an education in architecture and at least three years of experience.
- You’ll need a deep understanding of which technologies are used in smart homes and see how these fit into each project.

- You’ll need to have a Ph.D. in environmental adjustment, with a special focus on construction projects.
- You’ll need experience from large international, national or local projects within tidal issues, such as work on tidal gates in the Thames, challenges in Venice or reclaimed land in the Netherlands.
- You’ll need to have the ability to communicate with, convince and cooperate with international committees and academic experts in order to work creatively, reach progress and make sure to get results.
- You’ll need to demonstrate a very good understanding of hydraulic engineering, architecture and planning.

Vertical gardener
In today’s world, customers expect food to be very fresh and not to have travelled too far. Through working vertically, we can make use of rooftops in our cities, and make sure to get a smaller environmental footprint by working in non-traditional ways for the production of vegetables. Through the use of hydroponic farming, we can use less water and grow without soil.
This also creates more predictability because we are in better control of the farming, and can avoid the use of some harmful sprays and release of fertiliser into nature. The position of vertical gardener also involves being an advisor to others who want to grow food in more environmentally friendly ways. The position requires you to have “green fingers”, technical knowledge and the ability to sell this way of growing raw materials.
- Formal education in farming and experience in farming is a must.
- You must have a passion to teach vertical cultivation skills to others, and be able to teach about good nutrition. Good communication skills are also required, both verbally and in writing.
- You’ll need to be interested in farming and urban areas and have an ability to plan the start-up and the carrying-out of such projects. This requires the ability to work for a range of different clients, and the ability to create agreement around solutions and activities with different groups.

- You’ll need to have a background in product design, cognitive psychology or communication design. You’ll also need to have experience within project management in product planning and development, as well as marketing.
- An education within materials and design is a benefit, but not a must. If you have a fashion background, this is a benefit.

Cooperation between humans and machines is the reality of our new workforce.
